MORE AID,SWINE FLU,TAN RE & NBC

More Aid Coming Our way:

The European Union said on Thursday that it planned to give Tanzania 385 million euros ($535.9 million) for budget support and infrastructure projects. The EU said 305 million euros would go towards general budget support, 70 million euros for road construction, and 8 million for renewable energy, especially in rural areas and the remaining 2 million euros to boost its ability to tackle poverty issues


*SWINE FLU(H1N1)

I have been under the weather with a flu this past week of the things that has made me worried is the news that Swine Flu has finally landed in Dar courtesy of a British student….. I don’t want to think of the economic effect it would have on the nation if we had an epidemic and tourism would be one of the first casualties though the government has reiterated that it has stocks of 51,283 doses of tamilflu and already 1,200 doses have been sent to Zanzibar


Insurance Industry:

This is news that slipped my radar last week…


The Tanzania National Reinsurance Corporation Ltd (TAN-RE) has posted a pre-tax profit of 4.2bn/- from its operations during the 2008 financial year. The company had recorded a pre-tax of 1.8bn/- in 2007.According to the Managing Director Steve Oluoch TAN-RE is writing reinsurance business and providing capacity and technical services to a total of 93 companies in 26 countries in Africa. The insurance industry is one of the sectors that I see growth potential and in need of more local involvement currently it is being dominated by foreign investors from South Africa, Kenya and India.
